How we build
Precision, competence and care in every structure.
At Donaldson Timber Systems, building better begins with building right. Our approach to timber frame construction combines manufacturing precision with the skill and experience of qualified people on site. Every stage, from design to installation is guided by competence, collaboration and care.
We know that for first-time timber frame users, confidence comes from understanding the process. Here’s how we build it.

Competence built in
Quality starts with people who know their craft. All of our design, manufacturing and installation teams are trained and accredited in modern timber construction techniques. We invest continuously in skills development, ensuring our people understand every detail of how our systems perform, connect and protect.
This technical competence means your project benefits from expert guidance at every step — from design detailing through to completion.
Qualified installation teams
Each super structure is installed by fully qualified timber frame specialists.
Our installation teams follow a defined method of build, supported by detailed design drawings and on-site quality checks. This ensures accuracy, safety and consistency from plot to plot.
Every team member receives ongoing training through our internal learning programmes, ensuring that workmanship always meets current standards, site regulations and warranty provider requirements.

Just-in-time delivery
Efficiency on site is achieved through just-in-time delivery.
Panels arrive exactly when they are needed, already manufactured to specification and ready to install. This reduces storage needs, keeps sites clear and allows follow-on trades to begin sooner.
With shorter construction programmes and fewer deliveries, site operations are safer, cleaner and more predictable.

Local construction teams
We operate with local, regionally based installation teams who understand their communities and the specific conditions of each site.
Working locally helps us respond quickly, maintain consistent communication and minimise transport miles reducing both cost and carbon.
These teams are supported by our national design and technical experts, ensuring every project benefits from the strength of a large organisation with the attention of a local partner.

Managing waste responsibly
Our factory quality-controlled manufacturing process means less waste before materials ever reach site.
Offcuts and surplus materials are recycled wherever possible, and packaging is minimised to reduce disposal requirements.
On site, our just-in-time logistics and tidy work areas further reduce waste, material damage and unnecessary handling.

Training and support for site teams
We believe competence grows through shared learning.
That is why we provide training and technical support for our customers’ site teams throughout the build process.
From induction sessions and toolbox talks to guidance on sequencing and interfaces, our specialists work alongside your teams to ensure a smooth transition into timber frame construction.
Through the Timber Frame Training Programme and our online learning hub, we help contractors, site managers and follow-on trades understand best practice so every home meets the same high standard of performance.
Collaborative site management
Every project benefits from coordinated management between our technical, manufacturing and site teams.
Clear communication, agreed programmes and robust inspection procedures keep projects on schedule and aligned with quality expectations.
By combining offsite precision with experienced on-site leadership, we deliver predictability and peace of mind for all involved.

Built on experience, delivered with care
For over fifty years, we have refined the way we build, balancing technology, craftsmanship and teamwork.
The result is a construction process that is efficient, safe and sustainable, producing homes that perform exactly as they were designed to.
That is how we build and why our customers build with confidence.
