Spotlight on Lewis Breckon
When Lewis Breckon joined Donaldson Timber Systems just two and a half years ago, few could
have predicted the speed of his rise. Coming from a family with timber in their veins, Lewis followed in the footsteps of his father, Stewart Breckon, one of our skilled erectors at Frame Team. Starting out by working alongside his dad on the tools, Lewis decided to take the next step and applied for our Trainee Programme. From day one, he impressed everyone with his commitment, professionalism, and appetite for learning.
That dedication has paid off. Lewis not only completed his HNC with distinction—a result that has quickly become his hallmark—but has gone from strength to strength in his DTS career. Today, he proudly holds the role of Assistant Contracts Manager, where he is thriving.
Known for his hard work, approachable nature, and problem-solving mindset, Lewis has earned the respect of both colleagues and customers alike. His journey is a great example of how talent, determination, and the right opportunities can come together to create success. Congratulations, Lewis—we’re proud to have you in the team and can’t wait to see what you can achieve.
Coffee with Melanie Walker
I had worked in the bathroom industry for many years and felt ready for a new challenge. When I came across this opportunity, it felt like the perfect fit. I was particularly drawn to the strength of the products, facilities, and support, which I believe stand out from the competition. The fact that it is also a family-run business with a strong culture made the role even more appealing. My first few weeks have been excellent. I’ve learned a huge amount and progressed much faster than I expected, especially as I came in with no previous timber frame experience. My colleagues have been incredibly supportive and welcoming, which has helped me settle in quickly.
I’ve especially enjoyed building relationships with key customers and getting involved in live projects. I’m excited about bringing my first new client on board and seeing projects progress through to order. There’s already lots of positive activity with new prospects, so I’m confident that will happen soon. I’m also looking forward to contributing to the wider team’s sales targets and playing a part.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how quickly I’ve been able to learn and develop in the role. The level of support and collaboration from the team has made a real difference.
I’ve been really impressed by the depth of knowledge and expertise within the business, and how much thought goes into ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish. I’ve also learned how much DTS offers its customers beyond the product itself — including training, guidance, technical support, and a genuinely collaborative approach. The emphasis on service and adding value at every stage really sets DTS apart and shows why customers trust us with their projects.
Three Generations of Bulls
We pride ourselves not only on our craftsmanship but also on the strong sense of family that runs through our workforce. A shining example of this is the Bull family, who have collectively contributed decades of dedication to our team.
Kevin Bull, the family patriarch, worked as a forklift driver with us for an impressive 21 years before having to leave due to health issues. His son, Rickie, has followed in his footsteps, working as a forklift driver on and off for around 10 years.
And now, the next generation has joined the team — Harry Bull started with us marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Bull family here. Harry’s journey to joining us has been a long-awaited one. Due to age restrictions—specifically the requirement to be 18 or over for nail gun training—he was eager to start as soon as he was eligible. Now, he is working on the floor line at our Witney factory and has training plans lined up to help him progress within the company.
From as early as Year 10, Harry knew he wanted a career working with wood. Thanks to the encouragement and support of his dad and grandad, who both shared insights into the workings of the factory, Harry was well prepared even before his first day. His dad’s recommendation played a key role in his hiring through referral, highlighting the strength of family ties here. The Bull family’s involvement goes beyond just the three generations currently working here. Harry’s uncle, Matt, is a team leader on the floor line’s day shift, further underscoring how our workplace is truly a family affair.
To celebrate this special connection, we recently arranged a factory tour for Kevin, allowing him to see firsthand the changes and advancements that have taken place over his two decades with us. The Bulls’ story exemplifies the values we hold dear—commitment, family, and growth. We look forward to watching Harry grow within the company and are proud to have such a legacy continue in our ranks.
